One Tough Sony Digital Camera

By: Michael Bodnar

My brother-in-law brought his Sony Digital Camera with us on a hike to the Chimney Tops. That's a well known peak in the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. It was a great day and he was snapping away with that little digital camera. He had some real nice light and there was everything from flowers to beautiful vistas.

After about two hours of hard climbing we made our way to the top. It's one of the harder trails and a well known spot. The top has a rock face to climb to put you right on top of one of the two chimneys. I was afraid to go the last fifty feet, and I watched with a little envy as he perched on the top with that Sony camera.

As he is coming back down to where I was he tuned loose of the camera, and I watched in horror as it bounced and banged down that fifty feet of solid rock. Parts were flying off and I just knew it wasn't worth picking up. If it would have crossed the ledge I was on it would have been gone.

I picked it up at my feet and he made his way down picking up what turned out to be only the batteries, the battery cover, and the lens cap. It had a crack across the view finder but amazingly appeared to be mostly together.

He took pictures all the way down the mountain, and has been using it for the last three years. If I ever need a digital camera you can bet it's going to be a Sony. They should have that experience in a commercial.
